Nature is our biggest ally and our greatest inspiration
We struggle to match our consumption habits with sustainable production methods and confront the challenges nature presents us. At Hurricane, our projects strive to reverse this trend.
Hurricane Ventures began in response to Hurricane Felix – the strongest hurricane to make landfall in the Atlantic Basin. When Hurricane Felix struck the eastern coast of Central America in 2007, nearly 3 million acres of tropical rainforests were flattened overnight and more than a hundred thousand indigenous Nicaraguans were left suffering.
In 2008, Hurricane Ventures responded. Part social business, part relief, and part economic development, “Hurricane Design” was launched; working with local communities to transform storm-felled timber into high-quality designer furniture. This initiative brought much-needed employment and investment into the region. This founding project is the embodiment of what Hurricane Ventures stands for and a model of how we source business opportunities today that combine intelligent solutions with positive environmental and social impact.
